Retainer Dos and Don'ts Maintain a Forever Straight Smile!

Make sure to clean your retainers daily with a toothbrush and cold water to remove plaque and odors. Using Efferdent® or other cleaners is okay, but brushing is still necessary. Use the provided ultrasonic cleaner at least twice a week. Always keep your retainers in a case when not in use to prevent pets from chewing on them. It may take some time to adjust to speaking with retainers, so practice speaking, reading, or singing out loud to get used to them quicker.

Please wear your retainers full time until instructed otherwise by the doctor. Remember, retainers are for life! Consistently wearing your retainers will help maintain the same results as the day your braces came off.

When eating, remember to take out your retainers and always store them in their case to prevent loss. Retainers are breakable, so handle them with care. If your retainers are lost or broken, contact us immediately as a new impression will need to be taken.

If you have any questions or concerns about your retainers, or if they need adjusting, please call us instead of trying to adjust them yourself. Remember to bring your retainers to all appointments and remove them when swimming.

Avoid exposing your retainers to hot water, hot car dashboards, pockets, the washing machine, and napkins. Retainer replacements can be expensive, but with proper care, they can last for years.
