Temporary Anchorage Device (TAD)

Temporary anchorage devices, also known as TADs, are tiny titanium anchors utilized in specific orthodontic situations to facilitate faster tooth movement with increased effectiveness and comfort. TADs can be employed alongside braces or as a substitute for headgear.

What is the Process for Placing Tads?

A potent anesthetic is used to numb the gum tissue and jaw surrounding the area where the TAD will be placed. Once the area is numb, the doctor will gently insert the TAD through the gum tissue and firmly into the jawbone. The process of placing a TAD is quick and may be completed before you realize it. While the TAD is being placed, you may feel slight pressure, but within a day, you will no longer feel it. The TAD will be removed once your treatment is finished or when it is no longer needed to straighten your teeth. The removal of a TAD is a comfortable procedure that only takes a few minutes.

How Can I Alleviate the Discomfort From My Tad?

If you experience any discomfort after getting your TADs placed, it is recommended to take Tylenol® to help alleviate the pain. If the discomfort persists for several days after your treatment, please contact your dentist promptly.
