Correct your Jaw with Orthodontics Surgery

While Blue Wave Orthodontics is well-known for our unparalleled expertise in straightening teeth, we do much more than that. We offer the option of undergoing orthodontics surgery to correct a broad range of issues associated with the jaw and facial irregularities, whether it be minor or crucial. When choosing to undergo jaw reconstructive surgery, we understand that your tooth alignment can be highly affected; our orthognathic surgeons pair up with our highly-skilled orthodontists to ensure that your teeth stay in the proper position.
Before jumping right into surgery, our orthodontists will examine your mouth and create a personal plan to align your teeth distinctly and peculiarly so that your smile will be as straight as possible after the procedure. That means braces are required for 6-18 months with continuous checkups and adjustments.
During this period, it may seem as though your teeth are getting worse, but because each orthodontics surgery is unique to every individual, so is your pre-surgery adjustment. Our orthodontists have precisely planned how your teeth should sit according to your particular jaw and facial surgery. Once the orthognathic surgery is complete, modifying your teeth to be as straight as possible with a retainer will be easy.
While the brace face era doesn’t deter or scare people, the surgical procedure can seem very intimidating. Depending on the procedure you need, orthognathic surgery can last anywhere from an hour to several hours. Most of the surgical cuts won’t be external, but if external incisions are needed, our surgeons will take best possible care of you to ensure that scarring will be as minimal as possible.
Post-surgery care will differ from one person to another, however, most of our patients are back to their daily activities within two weeks post-op. Swelling can be prevalent, which is normal; this should last around the two week mark. While you may feel fine, the healing process will not be complete until around 9-12 months. During this period: you will make continuous appointments with your surgeon and orthodontist to monitor your progress. If your braces are still on, it should take around 6-12 months for them to be removed post-surgery.
